First Aid Kit
|
First Aid Kit. You can
buy ready-made traveller's first aid kits. But before you buy one, price how
much it would cost to buy a ready-made on versus one you stock yourself (including
stuff you already have and stuff you can buy). But make sure a ready made one
has all or most of the stuff below, and not too much you don't need.
What
Do I Need? A few suggestions for a big kit:
- Adhesive bandages in assorted sizes
- Gauze pads and roller gauze in assorted sizes
- Adhesive medical tape
- Elastic bandage, for twisted ankles, wrists, etc.
- Scissors, to cut bandages and tape
- Pre-moistened towelettes, to clean wounds when soap and
water are not available
- Thermometer
- Tweezers, to remove splinters and ticks
- Antibiotic ointment, to keep cuts or burns from becoming
infected
- Calamine lotion, for itchy rashes
- Disposable surgical gloves
- Cold pack
- Small flashlight and extra batteries
- Pad and pencil, to write down medical instructions
- Personal items, such as medications and emergency phone
numbers
- A first aid chart, to serve as a quick reference guide
A small cliplock bag provides the perfect solution to a
waterproof Personal First Aid Kit to have in your pack for an emergency.
